Cemex - LGV Driver

London, UK

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose to do an apprenticeship as I have always wanted to drive a truck and take after my father who was a truckdriver, it was a good way of working and learning at the same time.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?

Working and learning about LGV’s from expert experienced tutors, learning about things I never even imagined like drivers hours, what to look for in vehicle checks, learning about route planning, and health and safety, having expert 1.2.1’s and having a tutor to guide me through and supported me through the process of getting my LGV licence and helping me to be the best driver I can be.

Not to mention you earn a decent wage whilst learning my new role.

Why would you recommend it to others?

100% as the support I have been given is second to none, this Apprenticeship has really changed my life, if it wasn’t for the help, I received I really don’t think I could of got through it. Thanks to the Apprenticeship and my Skills Coach Paul I am doing my dream job.

This apprenticeship was recommended to me as part of my progression within the company, I was a team supervisor for many years with the view to stepping up to management.

The skills you learn are honed to the work that you do, and you can expand your knowledge to make work life more manageable.

Lisa Pimlott

Business Administrator Apprentice

Suez R&R - S.E. Regional Administrator

Stockport, UK

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship as it was a way of learning whilst still working and earning money. The apprenticeship was very flexible, I could do the work when it was convenient to myself and I was given lots of time to complete each section. This way seems more personal rather than large classes and the tutors take interest in the way you like to learn and works with you.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?

The benefits are that you can still earn whilst learning with a tutor that is always available if you need guidance. You can gain great qualifications to help you improve your job prospects and it gives you the confidence to move upwards.

Why would you recommend it to others?

I would recommend it to others as you can learn what you want and get the support you need throughout to help you gain the qualification you require.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship as I feel I can further my knowledge and skills more than I could completing this qualification by myself.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?

The knowledge and skills that you gain are more than if you were completing this by yourself. The skills and knowledge that you gain can also be used in your job role and general everyday life. The support you get from your trainer is also part of positives of the apprenticeship as they can pull on their own experiences to assist you further.

Why would you recommend it to others?

I would highly recommend to others.

Michelle Osgood

LGV Apprentice

Next - Van Driver

Doncaster, UK

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship because I have looked at doing my LGV/HGV for a while now and everywhere I looked required experience. This apprenticeship gave me the opportunity to get my licence and also some experience as well.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?

I can learn at my own pace and with the help of my trainer’s, if I have any questions I know I can call, email or text them and they will help me instead of having to worry about anything. Also it helps not having to find thousands of pounds to put myself through the courses I would need to do to get my licence. I also wouldn’t be able to improve my high school grades without this apprenticeship.

Why would you recommend it to others?

It is a fun and enjoyable way (most of the time) to reach goals you maybe thought were unattainable. You can apply for better jobs and I think it shows the company you work for a willingness to learn and expand your knowledge with the help of those around you.

I’m glad I was given this chance by my company and even though this last year has been different and delayed my progress it has given me something to look forward to during all these lockdowns and I can’t wait to be out on the road in my LGV/HGV.

Michael Snow

LGV Apprentice

Amey - Plant Operator

Northampton, UK

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I decided to choose an apprenticeship because it would help support me with my current working situation and fits better than just doing the standard training also I believed it would help assist with anything that I would possible struggle with if I was doing the course on my own.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?

  • More guidance than doing it alone / more support.

  • More training than just doing the standard course too helps me improve as an LGV driver.

  • Not as intense as a 5 day training course so it helps information sink in.

  • More qualifications than just a licence.

  • There is a lot more resources than I thought was possible.

Why would you recommend it to others?

I would recommend it to others because it has helped me develop whilst carrying on my work helping me progress my training with the support that helps providing confidence to accomplish all tasks set out. Furthermore it would be a great experience to anyone interested in the profession because the level of training given is outstanding.
