Poundland are excited to announce the launch of their new level 3 Team Leader Supervisor Apprenticeship within Harlow RDC. This apprenticeship is designed for employees who work within management roles and want to develop their knowledge and skill to a higher level. It ranks within the top 10 most popular apprenticeships undertaken in the UK.
The Apprenticeship is delivered over 18 months and includes 9 workshops delivered by specialist trainers System Group. As part of the programme, specialist trainers will facilitate learning activities within the cohorts to encourage peer-to-peer learning embedding Poundland's Leadership Principles to really stretch and challenge every colleague's thinking. These are suitable for new or established managers who want to build an effective team and learn more about people management and its role within Poundland RDC.
"Our Team leaders or supervisors have operational or project responsibilities or are responsible for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. They provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. With or without realising it, they will have their own management styles and behaviours. Our apprenticeship helps them to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to not only succeed in their role, but to become the best leader and manager they can be.”
Some of the key areas within the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the programme will include managing people, developing relationships, organisational performance, delivering results, personal effectiveness, managing self, taking responsibility and professionalism. Those who complete the apprenticeship will be eligible to register as Associate Members with the CMI and/or the ILM.
"Attracting, developing and retaining top talent is a critical component of Poundland’s high-performance strategy and critical to our ability to deliver exceptional customer & client service. As part of our people strategy, we are continually looking to invest in our people and provide everyone with an opportunity to continue to develop themselves."
During the launch I spoke with Scott Harris, who is the Senior Shift Operations Manager at Harlow RDC and here was his thoughts and feedback on the progress made with apprenticeships so far.
Poundland Continues to Invest In Its People
"After attending our onboarding session for the new Apprenticeship Programme for our Management team this morning I have to say what a great opportunity this is going to be for both myself personally and our entire management teams. As someone that started in logistics as an agency picker with no intention of staying long term (24 year ago 😊) I can say with my hand on heart how initiatives like this change lives and not just improve our managerial skills. I have attended courses like this throughout my logistics career and have sat there thinking why am I here? Why are they putting us through this? How is this going to help me get stock to stores? Well I can tell you the courses and skills I have learnt over the years through initiatives just like our new venture have not only enabled me to improve my own skills and behaviours but has seen me progress from an agency picker through different roles and companies to my position today of Senior Shift Manager supporting our team in Harlow build and deliver our part of project Ice. Bringing chilled and frozen products to our Poundland stores and expanding the high street offering to our customers and taking the business to another level.
I am both proud and excited to be part of this new development venture."
I'd personally like to take this opportunity to say a massive well done to all involved at Harlow DC and System Group for the launch. I am very excited to see how the 30 management apprentices develop over the next 18 months.
Lastly, I would like to wish all our management apprentices the very best of luck during their apprenticeship programme and in 15-18 months' time their endpoint assessment, which they will pass with flying colours.
