How the time has flown! In September last year, our very own Emily White blew us away coming first in her heat of the RTITB International Forklift Operator of the Year competition securing her place at the Grand Final.
There were four heats with Grand Final places handed to the top three from each day. The whoops of excitement that rang out when Emily was announced as winner of the day still seem to reverberate even now.
It seemed then that the Grand Final was so far away and yet here we are with just days to go before Emily will once again be pitting her skills against the best of the best in the industry at RTITB’s headquarters in Telford on 22nd June.
After the four imaginative and very challenging tasks that were set for competitors in the heats, we anticipate that RTITB will significantly up the ante. The Grand Final features six challenges and look to test the competitors to the max.
“I have looked through the schedule and the names of the tests alone look daunting enough,” Emily says of the competition next week. With challenges entitled ‘Crazy Golf’ and ‘Victoria Fall’, we can well understand her trepidation.
“I am looking forward to it though,” Emily continued. “I relish the challenge and can’t wait to see what they actually have in store for us. I just want to go and enjoy it, really. But still… fingers crossed!”
Emily will have a squad of friends and family cheering her on next week, both in attendance and virtually, as everyone at System Group will be rooting for her.
“She always does everything at 100%,” Dave Crawford, Commercial Director at System Group, explains. “We are so proud of her and couldn’t be happier to see her hard work and skills recognised in this competition.”
There’ll be a tense few hours after the competition as the results will be announced at the Talent in Logistics Awards at the International Centre in Telford that evening in a ceremony hosted by Tim Vine and attended by the cream of the logistics industry.
Emily will be able to calm her nerves with a well-deserved glass of champagne at the drinks reception sponsored by System Group prior to the awards ceremony. Her colleagues and friends from System Group will be raising a glass with her and discussing the possibilities of a System Group hat trick as the company are finalists in two other awards that will be announced on the night – Training Programme of the Year and Apprentice of the Year. It should be an exciting day and a glittering evening!
Good luck to Emily at the competition – we’re all rooting for you!
