System Group Scored Top Marks For Quality Competency
Training specialist System Group has received top marks for the quality of its professional driver testing after passing a competence inspection undertaken by examining body, OCR.
The firm received the Grade 1 award - the highest possible category in the nationally recognised scheme - for its Carlisle site in Brunthill, Kingstown after an inspection in March.
The move further reinforces the firm’s position as one of the UK’s leading providers of skilled drivers for local and national logistics operators.
The Department of Transport’s Certificate of Professional Competence covers a range of areas related to the road haulage business or passenger transport management.
The qualification is aimed at individuals keen to pursue a transport career or want to demonstrate that they have the professional competence to meet operator licensing requirements – holding a CPC is one of the elements an applicant must satisfy for work in the sector.
Commercial vehicle drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training every five years to retain their CPC. They must also keep their card with them whenever they are driving professionally.
The OCR inspection gave top marks for the quality of the firm’s examination materials, the security of its training rooms and exam papers, the management and supervision of driving test candidates, and agreed follow-up actions.
System Group, which operates across the UK and employs over 60 skilled trainers and assessors, is tackling the UK-wide demand for qualified LGV drivers.
Logistics and transport operators are currently struggling to recruit and it is estimated that an extra 150,000 more drivers will be needed by 2020.
It has also thrown its support behind the express trailblazer apprenticeship and other initiatives designed to equip employers with the workforce skills they need.
Dave Crawford, System Group’s director of operations commercial, said: “Achieving the top mark is clearly good news and reflects our commitment and investment in providing some of the best driving training facilities and teaching staff in the UK.
“We take great steps to ensure quality provision and have developed interactive, hands-on training programmes at Carlisle and other facilities that are of real benefit to those looking to secure a commercial driving career.”
System Group receives government funding for its apprenticeships and for employability programmes.
The firm has also achieved a Good Ofsted inspection report (Grade 2), which praised the hard work of senior leadership and managers and the improvements that have been made in the quality of training and achievement rates.
