Jamie Gant from Leeds is loving his Apprenticeship placement at Rubber Products Ltd in Leeds and he's performing so well that the company has got him working on one of their most expensive machines.

Jamie chose to complete a Warehousing & Storage Apprenticeship at System Training in Leeds. It deals with the movement and storage of goods which, of course, is an essential part of logistics operations for the manufacturing sector.

As part of the programme, he was lucky enough to gain his fork-lift truck licence and gained key skills needed to help him carry out practical tasks during his placement.

In his role at manufacturing company Rubber Products, Jamie uses this training to load and unload trucks and to help run the manufacturing machines.

Yodel, the UK’s largest parcel delivery carrier, has partnered with System Training to deliver a bespoke Logistics Apprenticeship programme with the view to introduce more young people to the logistics industry.
 
The 13 apprentices were selected onto the programme by Yodel’s Learning & Development department to ensure the correct applicants were chosen and to maximise the long-term opportunities.
 
The 26-week programme gives the youngsters a firm grounding in all areas of the logistics industry including a Level 2 NVQ in Warehousing and Storage, traffic office, delivering goods awareness, first aid and manual handling.

Leading logistics industry training provider System Training has today lifted a coveted prize at the UK Warehousing Association Awards.
 
System Training collected the UKWA Training Award for its work to improve skill levels across the sector and to help drive down costs through innovative training schemes.
 
Held at the Dorchester Hotel in London, the awards ceremony recognised excellence in the third party logistics sector and attracted entries from some of the most influential companies in the logistics and materials handling industry.

System Training has started to take applications for the next intake of 16-18 year old students on its hugely successful Logistics Apprenticeship programme.   

The innovative training programme, the only one of its kind the UK, will initially train young Apprentices in all areas of the Logistics industry before helping them to identify an area of the business that best suits their skills.

Worth £75bn annually and employing approximately 2.3 million people, the logistics sector is undoubtedly a mainstay of the UK’s economy. However, with 63% of the 381,200 people employed in goods handling and storage occupations within the industry only having qualifications up to S/NVQ Level 2 (according to Skills for Logistics, the skills council for the freight logistics sector), it is clear that there is considerable scope for raising the bar in terms of the skill set of many of those employees and the industry as a whole.
