System Training Ensures Stobart Keeps On Trucking

Friday, 1 July 2011 | Added by Stephanie Norman |

The latest generation of the famous Stobart trucking family has taken to the road after passing his lorry driving test and gaining his heavy goods vehicle licence. Twenty-year-old Edd Stobart, son of Stobart Group Chief Operating Officer William Stobart, was trained by System Training and passed his test first time.

Edd continues the Stobart road haulage dynasty and follows in the wheel tracks of his uncle, the late Edward Stobart, who grew the Eddie Stobart trucking business into the iconic company we know today.

After passing his theory test, Edd underwent a week of intensive training with System Training, the UK's largest logistics training provider, to learn the skills that would help him gain his HGV Class 2 licence for rigid vehicles.

But, if that wasn't enough, he was under pressure to reach the high standards set by his father, now the boss of logistics giant Stobart Group, and to keep the famous Stobart name alive in road haulage. To make it even harder, Edd and his instructor Tom Park were followed for the week by a camera crew who were filming the process for the hit Channel 5 documentary Eddie Stobart: Trucks & Trailers.

Edd will continue with System Training to achieve his Class 1 licence for articulated vehicles and then work within the Eddie Stobart logistics business.

System Training offers nationwide training for new drivers wishing to gain their HGV truck licence and a large selection of other logistics-based courses.

Edd Stobart said: "It's a great feeling to have got my licence and keep the Stobart family name on the road. I was really nervous on the day of the test as there was a lot of pressure to try and pass first time – to keep the same record as my dad. Now I can take to the road and start to get more involved with the Eddie Stobart business."

Tom Park, System Training Driving Instructor, said: "It was a privilege for System Training and myself to help Edd get his truck licence. I was impressed by how quickly he picked up the skills and, even though you are well prepared, anything can happen on the day of the test so it was great to see him pass first time."
