Welcome to Mechanical and Body Repairers
Welcome to the Mechanical and Body Repairers website.
Please note that we only cover Cumbria for the apprenticeships
in Motor Vehicle.
What does a Vocational Qualification in Motor Vehicles involve?
You'll either be employed or we'll help you find employment or
work experience with a local business. Following initial assessment
to match your skills and experience to the appropriate qualification
and level, you will build a portfolio based on 'real work' activities
to achieve your qualification. A System Group Training Adviser will
visit you in the workplace to provide support and carry out assessment
in the working environment.
Motor mechanics repair and service the mechanical parts of cars,
lorries, buses and other motor vehicles. Vehicle body repairers
and refinishers repair the bodies and chassis of damaged motor vehicles.
Where might I work and what tasks might I carry out?
Opportunities may exist in small or large garages, haulage firms,
exhaust centres or specialist body repair firms. Motor mechanics
test drive or use equipment to diagnose faults. This may involve
removing parts or taking an entire engine to pieces; repairing and
replacing defective parts; and putting the engine back together
again. A motor mechanic will also carry out routine maintenance
like checking oil, air filters, brakes and other vehicle parts.
A body repairer or panel beater beats out dents in bodywork; fills
in holes in bodywork; repairs damage to the chassis and paints the
repair work.
What skills should I have?
Being good with your hands, able to follow instructions, work as
part of a team and when necessary capable of working alone are essential
skills looked for.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no set academic entry requirements for Apprenticeships
and female applicants are equally encouraged to apply.
