The Accounting Modern Apprenticeship Programme
A programme funded through the Learning and Skills
Council that gives employed students access to free training towards
certain qualifications offered by the AAT.
To
qualify for a place on the Modern Apprenticeship programme, students
must be in relevant employment and must be under the age of 25 at
the time of joining the programme.
There is a wide range of jobs that would be relevant to this programme,
including:
- Accounts Clerk/Accounts Assistant
- Finance Assistant
- Cashier
- Credit Control Clerk
- Data Input Clerk
- Payroll Assistant/Wages Clerk
- Purchase Ledger/Sales Ledger Clerk

The Accounting Modern Apprenticeship programme consists of two
schemes:
Apprenticeship Programme
Comprises:
- NVQ/SVQ level 2 in Accounting or Payroll Administration (1)
- Key skill units in Communication and Application of Number
This scheme is suitable for those with little or no previous accounting
experience and no previous accounting qualifications. Completion
of the scheme will usually take between 12 and 18 months.
Advanced Apprenticeship Programme
Comprises:
- NVQ/SVQ level 3 in Accounting or Payroll Administration (1)
- Key skill units in Communication and Application of Number
This scheme is more suited to students who are aged 18 or above
and who have some previous experience or qualifications in accounting
or payroll administration. Completion of the scheme will usually
take between 1 and 2 years.

Apprenticeship programme is not currently available in Scotland
Students
can join either of the Modern Apprenticeship schemes at any time
during the year.
There may be a small fee payable to cover charges imposed by the
awarding body such as examination fees or registration charges.
